Altria Group, Inc. extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Jane Evans, a longtime Board member and one of the nation’s leading women executives, who passed away in November 2003. Jane died of a sudden illness while attending a business conference in Argentina. She was 59. Jane was Chief Executive Officer of Opnix Inc., an Internet traffic management company, at the time of her death. She had been a Board member of Altria since 1981, which made her one of our longest-serving Directors. She was Chair of the Board’s Committee on Public Affairs and Social Responsibility, as well as a member of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. She provided invaluable advice and counsel on a wide range of issues, including social responsibility and corporate affairs. Her wisdom, judgment and knowledge will be missed. Jane will be remembered for her long list of contributions to the business world and for her active leadership in women’s advocacy. She was a visionary, and carved new paths not just for herself but for others as well. We at the Altria family will miss her dearly. |
