Philip Morris Cos. acquires Nabisco, which becomes part of Kraft Foods.

Kraft Foods, Inc. completes $8.4 billion initial public offering of its common stock; Philip Morris Cos. announces proposal to change its name to Altria Group, Inc.


2002  

Shareholders approve name change to Altria Group, Inc.
– Miller Brewing Company is merged into South African Breweries plc.


2003  

Name change to Altria Group, Inc. takes effect.


2007  

On March 30, Altria Group, Inc. distributed approximately 88.9% of Kraft's outstanding shares owned by Altria to Altria's shareholders of record as of 5:00 p.m Eastern Time on March 16, 2007 (the Record Date).

On December 11, Altria Group, Inc. completed the acquisition of John Middleton, Inc., a leading manufacturer of machine-made large cigars, from privately held Bradford Holdings, Inc.


2008  

On March 28, Altria Group, Inc. completed the spin off of 100% of the shares of Philip Morris International to Altria’s shareholders.


2009  

On January 6, Altria Group, Inc. completed the acquisition of UST Inc.
