Compliance and Integrity
At the core of the Altria family of companies’ corporate culture is our determination to base decisions on integrity, and in full compliance with the letter and spirit of laws and regulations. We are guided by Altria’s Compliance and Integrity program, a collaborative effort by our companies, which is overseen by Altria Group’s Board of Directors. The program includes a set of standards and guidelines against which our companies’ compliance initiatives are monitored, audited and evaluated.
Altria has a Compliance and Integrity Leadership Team drawn from all the companies, and each Altria company has its own chief compliance officer and Leadership Team. These teams have developed and are rolling out new editions of the Altria and Kraft Codes of Conduct in 24 languages to ensure that all our employees are part of our commitment to compliance and integrity. Translations of Web-based compliance training modules began in 2004 and will extend the global reach of our program. Altria companies continued to expand the compliance curriculum for employees in 2004, and provided aspects of this training to those managing key risk areas.
Employee Involvement
The employees of Altria’s companies remain committed to improving the quality of life in their communities. They are our ambassadors around the world, giving generously of their time and money. Through our Employee Funds, Matching Gifts, Dollars for Doers and other workplace giving programs, more than $27 million in personal and company donations went to national and local not-for-profit organizations in 2004.
