Compliance and Integrity

Altria Group and each of its operating companies pursues its objectives with integrity and full compliance with the law.  Our Board of Directors is actively engaged in overseeing the management of our global compliance and integrity efforts, and is regularly updated.  Through a collaborative process, “The Altria Code of Conduct for Compliance and Integrity,” a comprehensive set of standards, was developed from our previous Business Conduct Policy.  The Code was distributed to employees, and Web-based training was created to enhance employees’ understanding of it.  During 2002 and 2003, the chief compliance officer of Altria Group, Inc. oversaw the creation of structured compliance teams at the parent and all operating companies.  Each company has its own chief compliance officer, a compliance and integrity management team drawn from all company functions, and company programs that meet Altria global standards.


Products

Each of our consumer packaged goods companies is dedicated to addressing issues related to the products it manufactures.  Both Philip Morris USA and Philip Morris International have made concerted efforts to prevent youth smoking, and are proactively communicating about the harm caused by smoking.  They also support meaningful and effective regulation of tobacco products, and research and development efforts that seek to bring to market a product that will potentially reduce smokers’ exposure to harmful compounds.

Kraft Foods is taking a leadership role in the areas of food safety and health and wellness.  It recently launched a global initiative to help address the issue of obesity, which includes a series of steps to align its products and marketing practices with societal expectations.

Responsibility is integral to the way each Altria company manages its business.  Each of our operating companies continuously implements workplace responsibility strategies, starting with maintaining the highest standards of compliance and integrity, and we expect each of our consumer packaged goods companies to address critical issues concerning its products.  In addition, we strive to treat all of our employees fairly and responsibly.  And, for more than 45 years, our responsibility efforts have included support for programs that help people in need, that enhance the quality of life in the communities where we live and work, and that protect natural and human resources.
