Political Involvement - Altria

The sale and use of our companies' tobacco and wine products are subject to regulation at the federal, state and local levels.

As a result, our companies are engaged at the federal, state and local levels to educate stakeholders, including elected officials, about our positions on legislative and regulatory proposals.

In the United States, our companies may make political contributions where permitted by law and company policy. In addition, since 1978 our companies’ political action committees (PACs), which now include AltriaPAC and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates PAC, have enabled employees and shareholders to pool their political contributions to support candidates who understand the legislative and regulatory issues that are important to our companies.

Policies & Procedures Guiding Our Involvement in the Political Process

Altria Group and its companies are committed to complying with all laws that govern their political activities. To that end, our companies have developed and maintain a comprehensive political activity compliance and integrity program that takes into account what we consider to be the best practices in this area.  Both the political activity compliance and integrity program and our companies’ political activities are systematically examined by internal and external experts. The program includes specific policies and procedures that are adopted by each Altria company. Learn More
