Philip Morris USA Will Ask U.S. Supreme Court to Review Oregon Smoking Case Verdict Philip Morris USA will pursue all further avenues of appeal including asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review an Oregon appellate court’s opinion issued last summer which upheld a jury’s decision in 1999 to award punitive damages in a smoker’s case that are 97 times greater than the compensatory damages awarded.
