Altria Group Tops DiversityInc Rankings

NEW YORK
April 11, 2005

DiversityInc announced today its fifth annual Top 50 Companies for Diversity, ranking Altria Group, Inc. first on the list. The only national survey of its kind, DiversityInc’s rankings are based on an analysis of a company’s human capital, CEO commitment, corporate communications and supplier diversity initiatives. More than 200 corporations participated in this year’s survey. Altria Group’s operating companies include Kraft Foods and Philip Morris USA.

The list was released today on www.DiversityInc.com. Details of all the listings, the methodology and the diversity strengths of the winning companies will appear in the June issue of DiversityInc magazine.

“How well a company manages its hiring, recruitment and retention practices directly affects its competitive edge and may very well be the deciding factor in its sustainability,” said Luke Visconti, partner and co-founder of DiversityInc. “Altria’s substantive employee programs ensure that its pipeline is full of top talent who want to build a future with the company because they are treated well and prepared for advancement through proper succession planning.”

"Altria Group is enormously proud and honored by DiversityInc’s recognition of our long-standing commitment to diversity,” said Louis C. Camilleri, chairman and chief executive officer, Altria Group. “People are the drivers of any organization’s sustainable competitive advantage. Each person is unique, with differing skills, backgrounds and outlooks and each brings a distinct combination of talents, experiences and perspectives to the workplace. Embracing, and more importantly, embedding, an appreciation for diversity in our culture is key to our success.”

Altria also ranked first in the Top 10 Companies for Recruitment & Retention, second for African Americans, second for Asian Americans, third for Executive Women and sixth in the Top 10 Companies for Supplier Diversity.
