Q:

Does the site track my visit?

A:

To ensure we are publishing content that our visitors need and want, we collect aggregated site-visitation statistics.

Q:

How does Altria Group, Inc., collect statistics?

A:

We collect aggregated site-visitation statistics using cookies. When someone visits the site for the first time, a cookie is placed on the person's computer (if the computer accepts cookies) or a previously-posted cookie is read if the person has visited the site before. A cookie is a small text file placed on a computer hard-drive. A cookie contains a a unique number, which is used to recognize your computer when a user of your computer returns to a Web site that was previously visited. All usage information for our Web site is aggregated, which means we do not track individuals' use of the site.

Q:

What kind of information will the site collect using cookies?

A:

Cookies do not collect personally-identifiable information. The cookie placed on your computer will contain only a unique number. This number is used to identify your computer to the system the next time that you visit the site. We WILL NOT associate cookie data with any information collected in an e-mail message that you send to Altria Group, Inc.

Q:

Can I set my browser to reject cookies?

A:

Both Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) allow some level of cookie verification or choice. Netscape 3.0 and MSIE 3.0 allow you only an "alert before accepting cookies." This way you can voluntarily choose not to visit a site or areas of a site that use cookies.

To be alerted about accepting cookies, please follow one of these procedures (the following is only a brief list of some popular browsers):

  • If you are using Netscape Navigator 3.0, go to the "Options" menu, then to "Network Preferences," and then to "Protocols." Check the box that says, "Show an alert before accepting a cookie."
  • In Netscape 4.0+, go to "Edit" in the menu bar, then to "Preferences," then to "Advanced." Check the box that says, "Warn me before accepting a cookie."
  • In Netscape 6.0, go to "Edit" in the menu bar, then to "Preferences," then to "Advanced," then to "Cookies." Check the box that says, "Warn me before accepting a cookie."
  • In Internet Explorer 3.0, go to the "View" menu, then to "Options," then to "Advanced." Check the box that says, "Warn before accepting cookies."
  • In Internet Explorer 4.0, go to the "View" menu, then to "Internet Options," then to "Advanced." Check the box that says, "Prompt before accepting cookies."
  • In Internet Explorer 5.0, go to the "Tools" menu, then to "Internet Options," then to "Security," then to "Custom Level." In the "Cookies" section, go to the "Allow cookies that are stored on your machine" sub-section and select "Prompt."

Q:

If I choose to reject cookies on my computer, how will that affect my interaction with the site?

A:

If you have turned the cookie feature "off" on your computer, you will still be able to browse Altria.com. Certain features like "Contact Us," however, will not be usable unless you have enabled cookies.
