Positive Youth Development

Philip Morris USA (PM USA), an Altria company, invests in a range of programs to support our goals of helping reduce underage tobacco use. PM USA provides grants to youth-serving organizations that provide direct services to kids and also supports school-based adolescent tobacco cessation programs and research.

Recognizing that those who live and work with children play an important role, PM USA funds programs to provide parents and other caring adults with information and resources to help them discourage youth tobacco use and other risky behaviors.

For nearly 10 years, PM USA has been a leading funder of positive youth development in the U.S.  PM USA focuses its positive youth development and adolescent tobacco cessation investments in three key areas:

  • Direct services including mentoring for youth and support for education and prevention curricula to enable positive decision-making, build self-confidence and reduce tobacco use and other risky behaviors
  • Organizational effectiveness grants to organizations to help them improve outcomes for kids, enhance program quality, and measure and evaluate impact
  • Field Advancement support for organizations to develop and distribute tools and resources for leaders and to help create better aligned and more effective youth programs and policies at the local, state and national levels

PM USA's key national partners include: Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, National 4-H Council, the Forum for Youth Investment, and Caron Treatment Centers.

In 2008, PM USA invested $19.5 million in positive youth development grants.
