Corporate ContributionsAltria Group's corporate contributions in 2008 totaled approximately $48 million in cash and $12 million in-kind. Corporate contributions were primarily directed to our focused giving areas but also included humanitarian aid grants, in-kind contributions and other charitable donations to support the communities where we live and work.
Our Strategic Focus AreasWe focus our giving in four key areas that align with our business goals:
Humanitarian AidAltria and its family of companies share a tradition of responding quickly to national calls for humanitarian assistance. Altria has provided millions of dollars in support for victims and communities affected by disasters like Midwest flooding, California wildfires, Virginia tornadoes and hurricanes Katrina, Ike, and Gustav. Altria's humanitarian aid grants totaled $1 million in 2008. In-Kind ContributionsAltria also provides in-kind assistance to aid communities in the event of a disaster or emergency, or to help in the day-to-day operation of non-profit organizations and institutions of learning. In 2008, in-kind donations from Altria and its companies included office and engineering equipment, non-branded consumer incentive gear and the donation of portions of Altria's extensive art collection from its former New York headquarters location to art institutions that have been long-standing partners with Altria. Altria's in-kind contributions totaled $12 million in 2008. Other Charitable ActivitiesIn addition to targeted giving within focused giving areas, Altria and its companies support other charitable activities. Grant CriteriaGrant applications and requests for proposals are by invitation only. We generally do not accept unsolicited funding requests. |
