Our companies play an active role in protecting our natural resources and reducing our environmental impact. In addition to setting long-term environmental targets, we engage policy stakeholders on these issues. As the societal impacts of climate change become more acute, it is critical for business and government to work together.

We know that climate change is real, and inaction is not an option. We have communicated our perspective to policy makers in Congress and our partner trade associations. For example, in 2020, Altria joined other companies in urging Congress not to lose focus on environmental issues as it works to address the far-reaching impacts of COVID-19. Specifically, we supported increased investments in clean energy infrastructure and grid modernization, the creation of new clean energy jobs, the improvement of the integration of renewable resources such as wind and solar and improved energy efficiency.

We are active members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Task Force on Climate Action as well as the Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s Corporate Sustainability and Environmental Executive Committee and also actively participate in the GreenBiz Group, an environmentally-focused organization designed to bring together corporate leaders to discuss environmental sustainability. We will continue to work with these organizations and partner with other corporations to address climate change. Learn more about our other environmental sustainability programs.
