For companies active in the public policy and political process, we recognize that shareholders and the public want greater access to information about a company’s lobbying and political activities as well as its governance and oversight framework.

Given the breadth of our activities in these areas, we know that shareholders expect Altria to be at the forefront of lobbying and political activities transparency. We're proud of our long-standing leadership and public commitment in this important area of corporate accountability, as demonstrated by the comprehensive disclosures we've made for over 18 years.

We regularly re-examine our transparency and disclosure regimes and engage with stakeholders, including shareholders, to understand evolving expectations. In the spirit of continuous improvement, in 2022 we expanded our disclosures with the publication of a comprehensive Lobbying and Political Activity Transparency & Integrity Report, which contained multiple enhanced disclosures.

Our report offers a fulsome picture of Altria’s public policy and political activities. The report details our:

  • legislative priorities;
  • rationale for our government affairs participation;
  • political activities’ policies;
  • robust board and management oversight;
  • rigorous compliance system and processes; and
  • alignment of our political engagement with the long-term interest of our shareholders.
